Burns

Kiwi Squish Bunz burned her hand on Monday July 26th, 2010 at around 11:20 in the afternoon. She has second degree burns on approximately 30% of her hand right now. On Monday we took her to the Summit ER, we followed up again on Tuesday. Wednesday the 28th we drove to Phoenix and took her to the Maricopa Medical Center where the Arizona Burn Center is located. They finished debriding the burn, taught us how to properly change the dressing and then told us to come back on Tuesday. Thursday the 29th she woke up with a fever of 101.7. Our pediatrician gave us antibiotics to treat a possible skin infection related to the burn. We then drove down to Phoenix again, they took a look at it and said it's fine, we just need to scrub it harder. They then re-bandaged her and said we didn't need to give her the antibiotics. Thank the Lord!

We have been home for 2 days now, it's really nice. I'm waiting on Jason to call a co-worker of his to get a blessing for Kiwi. We're hoping to avoid surgery to remove the rest of the dead tissue from her hand. What we're hoping for is no surgery on Tuesday, that she resumes full usage of her hand soon so we don't have to do physical therapy 10 times a day.

She'll be 11 months old on the 2nd.

Her burns were caused by the 'safe' 'low wattage' light bulb inside a scentsy burner  Scentsy I had removed the shade to empty the wax from it and turned off the bulb. I placed her on the floor and went to the kitchen. About a minute later I heard her shriek, I ran back into the room and she was on Stryders bed screaming and holding her hand to her face. I ran it under cold water for about 20 minutes until Jason got home, ran her outside to show him. He said take her to the ER, while I was on my way he called and said to stop at the fire station first. They were going to fly us to Phoenix but called ahead to Show Low and they said to come there first. While we were there they cut away the blistering. Applied Silver Sulfazide cream, bandaged it and said to come back the next day. She wasn't in pain until Wednesday when we went to the burn center and they debrided the dead tissue to expose the fresh. Now she's on Tylenol 3.
